Interdepartment Early Music Course started its activity in the academic year 1996/97 headed by Assistant Professor Agata Sapiecha. In January 2014 it was renamed the Unit of Early Music, and on 1 October 2016 it was transformed into the Interdepartment Unit of Early Music. The Interdepartment Unit of Early Music actively participates in concert life at the FCUM. Long-standing collaboration with the Department of Vocal and Acting Studies brings numerous annual opera productions staged at the Collegium Nobilium, co-featuring students, teachers and invited musicians and presenting great pieces written by 17th and 18th century composers. The foundation of the Opera Institute, a result of the collaboration of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, National Academy of Dramatic Art and Academy of Fine Arts, is a priceless idea focusing and promoting the values of high culture. The Interdepartment Unit of Early music fits in perfectly with this process of penetration of music literature and historically-informed performance.
