BA Stud­ies

Major: SOUND ENGINEERING (intra­mural studies)

- Knowl­edge of the media

• oral — test of can­di­dates’ pre­dis­po­si­tion to the sound engi­neer­ing pro­fes­sion, their gen­eral sonar sen­si­tiv­ity and imag­i­na­tion, sen­si­tiv­ity to sonar colour and gen­eral knowl­edge of cul­ture and the media
• writ­ten — selec­tion of one of sev­eral sub­jects con­cern­ing famil­iar­ity with musi­cal works for the cin­ema, the­atre, tele­vi­sion and radio musi­cal record­ings, his­tory of culture

- Aural train­ing and harmony

• writ­ten — dic­ta­tion: mem­ory, har­monic, three-part, cor­rec­tion of errors in a musi­cal text, melody harmonising
• oral — singing at sight, recog­ni­tion of chord types and har­monic com­bi­na­tions, play­ing caden­zas, pro­gres­sions and modulations

- Math­e­mat­ics and physics — writ­ten and oral, mate­r­ial — high school, new school-leaving exam­i­na­tion („nowa” matura), advanced course

• math­e­mat­ics — trigonom­e­try, func­tion prop­erty analy­sis and domain iden­ti­fi­ca­tion, equa­tions and inequal­i­ties, trigono­met­ric equa­tions, cal­cu­lus of prob­a­bil­ity, writ­ten – 3–4 problems
• physics — phys­i­cal units, mechan­ics, optics, acoustics, elec­tric­ity, writ­ten — 2 to 3 problems

- Instru­ment

• pre­sen­ta­tion of pre­pared pro­gram (any three pieces, prefer­ably rep­re­sent­ing dif­fer­ent styles) on a cho­sen instru­ment (agreed upon before­hand with the Depart­ment Office). The candidate’s musi­cal­ity will be the main focus of assess­ment, not tech­ni­cal proficiency

MA Stud­ies

Major: SOUND ENGINEERING (intra­mural studies)

Spe­cial­ties: Film and TV Sound Engi­neer­ing, Music Production

• an inter­view con­cern­ing: film sound engi­neer­ing or music pro­duc­tion, depend­ing on the cho­sen spe­cial­ity, dur­ing which the can­di­date presents the fol­low­ing com­pleted tasks: films with sound pre­pared by the can­di­date or music record­ings pre­pared by the can­di­date. Music record­ings should be pre­sented on a CD, in a for­mat with no lossy data com­pres­sion. Film works (at least two) should be pre­sented as audio stereo or LCR files with syn­chro­nous video files in the Quick­time dvPAL for­mat and as an open Pro­TOOLS stereo or LCR ses­sion; one of the pre­sented works must include the sound layer based on post­syn­chrones: also dia­logues and effects (e.g. it can be a 5-minute-long frag­ment of a fea­ture film), the sec­ond work can be any film (espe­cially a film study or an animation);
• knowl­edge and skills test based on the BA stud­ies (first degree stud­ies) cur­ricu­lum for the Major: Sound Engi­neer­ing (only for can­di­dates who do not have a diploma obtained at this Major; pos­i­tive result of the test will be the basis for admit­ting a can­di­date to the interview).

Can­di­dates for the sec­ond degree stud­ies in the spe­cial­ties: Film and TV Sound Engi­neer­ing and Music Pro­duc­tion, can apply for widen­ing their selected Major with mul­ti­me­dia sub­jects, in a form of an indi­vid­ual plan of stud­ies (as spec­i­fied in the FCUM riles of stud­ies), as part of the project called the Inter-University Mul­ti­me­dia Pro­gram run by the Depart­ment of Sound Engi­neer­ing, which is a con­tin­u­a­tion of the project co-financed by the Oper­at­ing Pro­gramme “Human Cap­i­tal” as part of the Euro­pean Social Fund.
Stu­dents will be qual­i­fied to par­tic­i­pate in the MSM project on the basis of their pre­lim­i­nary dec­la­ra­tions, dis­trib­uted among the can­di­dates. In case of too many can­di­dates the basis for accept­ing them for the project will be a test of log­i­cal think­ing.
The date of the test of log­i­cal think­ing is 4th July 2012.

Spe­cialty: Sound Engi­neer­ing in Mul­ti­me­dia (intra­mural studies)

• an inter­view con­cern­ing sound engi­neer­ing in audio­vi­sual forms, dur­ing which a can­di­date presents sound to: 1 . an artis­tic audio­vi­sual form (e.g. a car­toon, an exper­i­men­tal film, a film study, video-art – instal­la­tion of archi­tec­tonic space or other pub­lic space). The work should include cre­ational sound ele­ments; 2. frag­ment of a fea­ture film with dia­logues. Both works should be pre­sented in the form of audio stereo or LCR files with syn­chro­nous video files in the Quick­time dvPAL for­mat and as an open Pro­TOOLS stereo or LCR session;
• knowl­edge and skills test based on the BA stud­ies cur­ricu­lum for the Major: Sound Engi­neer­ing (only for can­di­dates who do not have a diploma obtained at this Major; pos­i­tive result of the test will be the basis for admit­ting a can­di­date to the interview);
• pre­dis­po­si­tion test in log­i­cal thinking.

From the Aca­d­e­mic Year 2012/2013 the intake for the spe­cialty: Sound Engi­neer­ing in Mul­ti­me­dia is part of the project called the Inter-University Mul­ti­me­dia Pro­gram run by the Depart­ment of Sound Engi­neer­ing, which is a con­tin­u­a­tion of the project co-financed by the Oper­at­ing Pro­gramme “Human Cap­i­tal” as part of the Euro­pean Social Fund.
