Professor Zofia Konaszkiewicz, PhD Hab.

Head of the Chair of Music Education
Zofia Konaszkiewicz studied psychology, education and music art.
She majored in psychology at the University of Warsaw in 1967. The title of her thesis was Analysis of the Process of Re-education of Children with Learning Difficulties in Reading and Writing. She majored in the arts at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw in 1975 on the basis of a music performance and a thesis entitled The Educational Role of Amateur Youth Group Music Making.
She got her PhD in Education from the Department of Education, University of Warsaw in 1974 on the basis of her doctoral thesis The Educational Functions of Music Reception in Youth. She received her post-doctoral degree (Habilitacja) from the same department in 1988 on the basis of her book Polish Dancers — Their Training, Their Profession.
She was given the title of Professor at the Institute of Art, Polish Academy of Sciences in 1997 and became Full Professor in 1999.
Teaching:
- at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw since 1975 (psychology, pedagogy, methods of music education, research methodology, Master’s Degree supervision, lectures at various post-graduate courses):
- at the Papal Department of Theology in Warsaw since 1993 (psychology, education, Master’s Degree supervision, monographic lectures);
- she has also taught at Secondary Music School and various institutions for handicapped children.
Professor Zofia Konaszkiewicz is Head of the Chair of Music Education at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw. She is also Member of the Scientific Doctorate Commission, Member of the Executive of the Polish Section of the International Society for Music Education, member of the Polish Pedagogical Association, Member of the European Association for Music in School, Expert of the Ministry of National Education for the Professional Advancement of Teachers. She co-operates with the Centre for Artistic Education, the Centre for Cultural Animation and the Children’s Trust.
She has contributed to dozens of scientific sessions and congresses, mostly on music education and education through art.
Main areas of research:
- the musician as educator in the changing world;
- the psychological and pedagogical foundations of music education;
- the psychological and pedagogical determinants of the profession of dancer and ballet school education;
- the educational and therapeutic functions of music with respect to children and adolescents.
