Professor Zbigniew Płużek, DMus Hab.

Zbig­niew Płużek grad­u­at­ed from the State High­er School of Music (now the Karol Lip­ińs­ki Acad­e­my of Music) in Wrocław. He obtained his diplo­ma with hon­ours in bas­soon class of Pro­fes­sor Stanisław Lech in 1974. He was a mem­ber of the Great Sym­pho­ny Orches­tra of the Pol­ish Radio and Tele­vi­sion in Katow­ice in the peri­od of 1073–1976, and was the first bas­soon­ist at the Nation­al Phil­har­mon­ic in War­saw in 1976–1987. Since 1989 he has been the soloist of Sin­fo­nia Varso­via.

He par­tic­i­pat­ed in many music com­pe­ti­tions, win­ning a num­ber of awards, e.g., 1st award at the All-Poland Com­pe­ti­tion for Young Bas­soon­ists in 1973, 2nd award at the Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion in Ancon in 1979 (1st prize was not award­ed) and brown medal at the Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion in Gene­va in 1980.

He is a mem­ber of the War­saw Wind Quin­tet “Da Cam­era”, with which he has giv­en con­certs in many coun­tries in Europe, as well as in the USA, and has made a num­ber of CD and radio record­ings. Since 1980 he has run the class of bas­soon at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music in War­saw. Among his grad­u­ates are e.g.: G. Gołąb, A. Bude­jko, M. Ocza­chow­ski, L. Wach­nik, K. Pio­trow­ska, R. Zason, K. Zdy­bel, and P. Kamiń­ski — soloists and mem­bers of lead­ing Pol­ish orches­tras and lau­re­ates of numer­ous nation­al and inter­na­tion­al com­pe­ti­tions.

Since 2012 he has head­ed the Chair of Wind Instru­ments at the FCUM in War­saw.
