Professor Stanisław Skoczyński

Pro­fes­sor Mikołaj Stasiniewicz’s last stu­dent,
he con­tin­ued his stud­ies at the State Higher School of Music in War­saw. He per­fected his skills in inter­pre­ta­tion of con­tem­po­rary music in Paris where he worked with pro­fes­sor Sil­vio Gualdo and Pro­fes­sor Gas­ton Sil­vestre. He took active part in courses devoted to the inter­pre­ta­tion of con­tem­po­rary music, led by such com­posers as Ian­nis Xenakis, Mauri­cio Kagel, Luciano Berio, Luigi Nono, Olivier Mes­si­aen, Pierre Boulez, Georg Aperghis, Toru Takemitsu and Elliot Carter.

He is a soloist of the Pol­ish Radio Orches­tra in War­saw and co-founder, mem­ber and con­duc­tor of the War­saw Per­cus­sion Group. He has worked with many dis­tin­guished soloists, cham­ber ensem­bles and orches­tras in Poland and abroad.

He is a spe­cial­ist in the inter­pre­ta­tion of so-called Mul­ti­per­cus­sion and Instru­men­tal The­atre works and as such he has per­formed at home and abroad. He has given many first per­for­mances of pieces for per­cus­sion and has made many radio and record record­ings in Poland and abroad. He has nearly all works ever writ­ten for solo per­cus­sion in his reper­tory. Many con­tem­po­rary com­po­si­tions for per­cus­sion instru­ments have been ded­i­cated to him. One of them is Stanisław Moryto’s CARMINA CRUCIS.

Stanisław Skoczyński is an active teacher and the­sis super­vi­sor. He con­ducts numer­ous courses, sem­i­nars and per­cus­sion con­gresses in Poland and abroad and at many music acad­e­mies and uni­ver­si­ties. Being a recog­nised, world-wide author­ity in his spe­cial­ity he has judged many inter­na­tional com­pe­ti­tions. He has pub­lished many arti­cles in pres­ti­gious music jour­nals in Poland and abroad. He is per­cus­sion class pro­fes­sor at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­sity of Music in War­saw. His for­mer stu­dents have won many per­cus­sion con­tests and pur­sued suc­cess­ful artis­tic and aca­d­e­mic careers as pro­fes­sors of well-known uni­ver­si­ties in Europe and the USA.

Stanisław Skoczyński is also the founder, inspirer and artis­tic direc­tor of the Inter­na­tional Fes­ti­val of Per­cus­sion Arts CROSSDRUMMING, World Per­cus­sion Art Con­gresses, Inter­na­tional Mas­ter Courses and the Inter­na­tional Mikołaj Stasiniewicz Per­cus­sion Com­pe­ti­tion organ­ised in com­mem­o­ra­tion of his Mas­ter and Mentor.
