Professor Marcin Zalewski

Professor Marcin Zalewski is the leading Polish guitarist, lutenist and viola da gamba player. He studied the classical guitar at the State Higher School of Music in Łódź with Professor Aleksander Kowalczyk and the viola da gamba at the Dresdner Akademie für Alte Musik with Jaap ter Linden and Jonathan Manson. He took part in competitions in Łódź and Belgrad and has performed and recorded as a soloist with many renowned ensembles. He has taken part in first performances of music by contemporary composers. All in all, he has recorded 21 CDs. He has taken part in most Polish festivals of ancient and modern music.
Marcin Zalewski has taught a guitar class at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music (now the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music) in Warsaw since 1976. Many of his former students are now distinguished soloists, teachers and composers (R. Bałauszko, Ch. Sarropoulos, J. Łozak, L. Potasiński, K. Celiński, M. Maszkiewicz, M. Nagy, L. Rojsza, M. Mejerczyk, G. Krawiec). Marcin Zalewski has judged many guitar competitions.
He has written a manual for the guitar.
