Professor Marcin Zalewski

Pro­fes­sor Marcin Zalewski is the lead­ing Pol­ish gui­tarist, lutenist and viola da gamba player. He stud­ied the clas­si­cal gui­tar at the State Higher School of Music in Łódź with Pro­fes­sor Alek­sander Kowal­czyk and the viola da gamba at the Dres­d­ner Akademie für Alte Musik with Jaap ter Lin­den and Jonathan Man­son. He took part in com­pe­ti­tions in Łódź and Bel­grad and has per­formed and recorded as a soloist with many renowned ensem­bles. He has taken part in first per­for­mances of music by con­tem­po­rary com­posers. All in all, he has recorded 21 CDs. He has taken part in most Pol­ish fes­ti­vals of ancient and mod­ern music.

Marcin Zalewski has taught a gui­tar class at the Fry­deryk Chopin Acad­emy of Music (now the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­sity of Music) in War­saw since 1976. Many of his for­mer stu­dents are now dis­tin­guished soloists, teach­ers and com­posers (R. Bałauszko, Ch. Sar­ropou­los, J. Łozak, L. Potasiński, K. Celiński, M. Maszkiewicz, M. Nagy, L. Rojsza, M. Mejer­czyk, G. Kraw­iec). Marcin Zalewski has judged many gui­tar competitions.

He has writ­ten a man­ual for the guitar.
