Professor Krzysztof Bąkowski, DMus Hab.

Krzysztof Bąkows­ki, born in War­saw in a fam­i­ly of musi­cians, is con­tin­u­ing the fam­i­ly tra­di­tion. Encour­aged by his father Zenon Bąkows­ki, vio­lin­ist and ped­a­gogue of great renown, he too began to play the vio­lin. He stud­ied at the Fred­er­ic Chopin Acad­e­my of Music in War­saw and Indi­ana Uni­ver­si­ty, Bloom­ing­ton, USA under pro­fes­sors Tadeusz Wrońs­ki and Josef Gin­gold to name a few. He won the T. Wrońs­ki Solo Vio­lin Com­pe­ti­tion in War­saw in 1990.

Krzysztof Bąkows­ki has per­formed and lec­tured at a num­ber of music fes­ti­vals includ­ing fes­ti­vals in Louisville, Rot­ter­dam, Wrocław, Katow­ice, Lerchen­borg, War­saw, Łań­cut, Odense, Min­sk, Poz­nań, Gdańsk, Puebla, Arn­hem, Kraków, Apel­doorn, Duszni­ki, and Berlin. He has played with lead­ing Pol­ish orches­tras includ­ing the Pol­ish Radio Nation­al Sym­pho­ny Orches­tra (NOSPR), Sin­fo­nia Varso­via, and the Nation­al Phil­har­mon­ic Orches­tra under the direc­tion of Antoni Wit, Jerzy Maksymiuk and Jacek Kasp­szyk and oth­ers.

Krzysztof Bąkows­ki has giv­en sev­er­al dozen first ren­der­ings of Pol­ish and world works. Many of these pieces were ded­i­cat­ed to him. He has been the first to per­form in pub­lic the vio­lin works of such com­posers as Hen­ryk Mikołaj Górec­ki, Paweł Szy­mańs­ki, Han­na Kulen­ty, Tadeusz Wielec­ki, Jerzy Kornow­icz, and Alek­sander Lasoń. He has also made over 50 record­ings for radio and tele­vi­sion broad­cast­ers in Poland, Ger­many, Den­mark and Hol­land includ­ing first record­ings of Roman Palester’s vio­lin con­cer­to and Graży­na Bacewicz’s vio­lin con­cer­to (with NOSPR). His record­ing of Witold Lutosławski’s Par­ti­ta and Chain II with the Pol­ish Radio Great Sym­pho­ny Orches­tra (WOSPR) under Antoni Wit, reg­is­tered on CD by Nax­os, was a great suc­cess in terms of sales and excel­lent reviews. For many years now this record has been sell­ing all over the world and has received many awards and prizes includ­ing the pres­ti­gious Dia­pa­son d’Or award­ed by the French crit­ics.

Krzysztof Bąkows­ki is now Pro­fes­sor at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music and con­cert­mas­ter of the Nation­al Phil­har­mon­ic Orches­tra in War­saw.
