Professor Krystyna Juszyńska, PhD Hab.

Krysty­na Juszyńs­ka, Full Pro­fes­sor in The­o­ry of Music, cur­rent­ly hold­ing the func­tion of Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music in War­saw. She grad­u­at­ed with hon­ours from the Fac­ul­ty of The­o­ry of Music at the State High­er School of Music in Łódź (1977). She defend­ed her doc­tor­al the­sis on Józef Hofmann’s piano art at the Fry­deryk Chopin Acad­e­my of Music in War­saw (1987) and obtained a post-doc­tor­al degree (then 2nd degree qual­i­fi­ca­tions) at the Acad­e­my of Music in Cra­cow (2000). She received the title of Pro­fes­sor of Musi­cal Arts in 2015. She end­ed her 37-year-long work at the Acad­e­my of Music in Łódź in 2014. Since 2012, she has been employed as Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor at the Chair of The­o­ry of Music at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music in War­saw.

She used to work at the Acad­e­my of Music in Łódź as Assis­tant (since 1977), Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor (since 1987) and Asso­ciate Pro­fes­sor (since 2003). She held the func­tion of Deputy Dean of the Fac­ul­ty of Com­po­si­tion, The­o­ry of Music, Rhyth­mics and Artis­tic Edu­ca­tion (2005–2012) and Head of the Depart­ment of Music Cul­ture of Łódź and its Region (2010–2014). She was a Board mem­ber of the Łódź Learned Soci­ety (2003–2015), where she held the func­tion of Sec­re­tary of the Depart­ment of Art and Art Stud­ies for three terms of office (2003–2012), and then Head of this Depart­ment (2012–2015). She was a Board mem­ber of the Pol­ish Music Insti­tute with its seat in Łódź and has been a Coun­cil mem­ber of the Muse­um of the City of Łódź, appoint­ed by Pres­i­dent of the City of Łódź (two terms of office – 2008–2016).

She is an author of the book enti­tled Inter­pre­tac­ja artysty­cz­na dzieła muzy­cznego [Artis­tic inter­pre­ta­tion of  a musi­cal work] (Łódź 1999) and ca 80 aca­d­e­m­ic arti­cles on the­o­ry of music, musi­cal edu­ca­tion, piano stud­ies and music life in Łódź. She has tak­en part in about 60 nation­al and inter­na­tion­al con­fer­ences. She con­duct­ed schol­ar­ly research in Poland and abroad in: the USA (1994), Paris (2008, 2010, 2011), Sankt Peters­burg (2000), Berlin (2001), Lvov (2002), Vil­nius (2006). She ini­ti­at­ed stud­ies on music in Łódź and edit­ed two col­lec­tions: Musi­cal Cul­ture of Łódź (5 vol­umes) and Cre­ators of Musi­cal Life in Łódź (1 vol­ume). She super­vised 11 BA the­ses, 67 MA the­ses and 1 doc­tor­al the­sis.

As a stu­dent, she received an award of the Min­is­ter of Cul­ture and Art for the best stu­dent of the year (1975) and a schol­ar­ship from the Fry­deryk Chopin Soci­ety in War­saw for her the­sis on Józef Hofmann’s piano art (1976). Her awards include: Rector’s Award of the Acad­e­my of Music in Łódź (1989, 2000, 2009, 2012),  Gold­en Cross of Mer­it (2005), Aca­d­e­m­ic Award of the Pres­i­dent of the City of Łódź (2006), Artur Rubin­stein medal (2007), Medal Of Mer­it from the City of Łódź (2008), Pro Pub­li­co Bono Medal (2009), medal of the Łódź Learned Soci­ety (2012) and the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polo­nia Resti­tu­ta (2013).
