Professor Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska

Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska grad­u­ated with hon­ours from the Fry­deryk Chopin Acad­emy of Music in War­saw where she stud­ied the piano with Pro­fes­sor Wik­tor Mierzh­nov and piano cham­ber music with Pro­fes­sor Jerzy March­wiński. She fur­thered her stud­ies as a grantee of the Swedish Gov­ern­ment at the Royal Acad­emy of Music, Stock­holm and the Swedish Radio School of Cham­ber Music, Eds­berg where she worked with such out­stand­ing artists as Greta Erick­son, Kurt Levin and Frans Helmerson.

After her debut in 1977, when she was still a stu­dent, she per­formed as a soloist with the Hen­ryk Wieni­awski Phil­har­monic Sym­phony Orches­tra in Lublin where she played e.g., the piano con­cer­tos of J. S. Bach, L. van Beethoven, E. Grieg, C. Saint-Saëns and S. Prokofiev. Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska also gives numer­ous piano recitals, play­ing mainly Chopin, at home and abroad, e.g., in France, Hol­land, Swe­den, The United Arab Emi­rates and Iran.

Her main pas­sion is piano cham­ber music, how­ever. She accom­pa­nies musi­cians from Poland and abroad in their recitals, espe­cially singers, for exam­ple Jerzy Artysz, Urszula Kryger, Zofia Kilanow­icz and Urszula Jankowska (her sis­ter) with whom she has played at the most pres­ti­gious con­cert halls in Poland and abroad in nearly all the West­ern Euro­pean coun­tries as well as Rus­sia, Israel, Asia and Africa. She has attended many national and inter­na­tional fes­ti­vals, for exam­ple “Wratis­lawia Can­tans” (many times), the Chopin Fes­ti­val in Duszniki, the Karol Szy­manowski fes­ti­val in Zakopane, “Musi­co­rama” in Paris, “Fes­ti­val van Vlaan­dereen” in Lim­burg (Bel­gium) and “Jer­ach Fes­ti­val of Cul­ture & Arts” in Jordan.

Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska has made very many radio record­ings (library and occa­sional), at home and abroad, e.g., in France, Ger­many, Den­mark and Fin­land. She has also recorded for tele­vi­sion, given “live” recitals and recorded for doc­u­men­taries. Her record­ing with Jerzy Artysz was awarded the title “Record­ing of the Year 1990″. Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska has also recorded many CDs. She and the mezzo-soprano Urszula Kryger are lau­re­ates of the “Fry­deryki 2001″ award for K. Szymanowski’s songs. She records for many record com­pa­nies: Ton­n­press, DUX, the Japan­ese Pony Canyon Inc. and sev­eral Ger­man companies.

Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska has fre­quently attended national and inter­na­tional mas­ter courses where she has col­lab­o­rated with such out­stand­ing musi­cians and teach­ers as cel­lists Kaz­imierz Wiłkomirski, Kaz­imierz Micha­lik, Ivan Monigetti, Daniel Szafran and Ivan Salo and the singer Teresa Żylis-Gara. She has par­tic­i­pated in Inter­na­tional Com­pe­ti­tions (W. Lutosławski, St. Moniuszko) where she has been awarded hon­ourable men­tion. She has accom­pa­nied young, gifted singers and instru­men­tal­ists at numer­ous com­pe­ti­tions includ­ing some of the most impor­tant ones, e.g., the P. Tchaikovsky Com­pe­ti­tion in Moscow, the J. Brahms Com­pe­ti­tion in Ham­burg, the Munich “Radio”, “Geneva” and “Euro­vi­sion Competitions”.

Katarzyna Jankowska-Borzykowska has taught at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­sity of Music in War­saw, her alma mater, for many years. She has been a pro­fes­sor there since 2007. She teaches piano cham­ber music, pass­ing on her expe­ri­ence as a per­former, her artis­tic sen­si­tiv­ity and her pas­sion to new gen­er­a­tions of musicians.
