Professor Jerzy Łukasiewicz

He studied at the State Higher College of Music in 1969–1974 and graduated with honours in Professor W. L. Puchnowski’s, He then went on to continue his post-graduate doctoral studies which he completed in 1977. He received the title of Professor of Music Arts from the Polish President in 2001.

Winner of national and international competitions:

In 1979 Jerzy Łukasiewicz established the Warsaw Accordion Duo (with W. Strombek) with which he has given over 600 concerts in Poland and abroad as well as 850 school concerts. He has also played with symphony orchestras and co-operates on a permanent basis with the Camerata Vistula orchestra. He has made numerous radio, television and record recordings of contemporary music as well as popular and film music. He has taken part in the most prestigious musical events including Warsaw Autumn, Styrian Autumn — Musikprotokoll (Graz, Austria), Poznań Musical Spring, Silesian Composers’ Platform, Baranów Music Encounters, Musica Moderna (Łódź), the Festival of Contemporary Music in Lisbon (Portugal), the International “Jeunesses Musicales” Festival, Polish Culture Days in Hungary and Austria. He takes advantage of state-of-the art technology during his performances, e.g., electronic sound correctors, computers, synthesisers etc., in order to enrich the sound of the accordion.

His students have won many competitions in Poland and abroad, playing both solo and chamber music, e.g.:

Jerzy Łukasiewicz also does scientific research. He conducted research on tuning tolerance for the music industry at the Chair of Acoustics, Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music. This work led to the development of new methods of tuning accordions using modern electronic devices. The results of this research have been published (J. Łukasiewicz, Accordion Tuning. Contemporary Methods and Organisation).

Jerzy Łukasiewicz has prepared many solo arrangements and scores for various groups of instruments. This work encouraged him to deepen his knowledge in the field of score and scientific publication editing by means of computer technology. This led to the publication of several scores and scientific works in co-operation with the UMFC Press as well as a series initiated by Professor S. Moryto and edited by J. Węcowski — “Musical First Editions of Polish Composers”.

Professor Jerzy Łukasiewicz shares his research experience in his charter lectures called Computer Technology for Music where students learn about all possible applications of computers and other electronic devices in music.
