Assistant Professor Dariusz Przybylski, DMus Hab.

Dar­iusz Przy­byl­s­ki, organ­ist and com­pos­er, b. 28th July 1984 in Konin. In 2003 he grad­u­at­ed from the State Sec­ondary School of Music in Konin, where he stud­ied organ with Han­na Buczkows­ka. He grad­u­at­ed with hon­ors Magna cum Laude from Fry­deryk Chopin Music Acad­e­my (now the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music) in War­saw where he stud­ied com­po­si­tion with Marcin Błażewicz and organ with Andrzej Chorosińs­ki. In the aca­d­e­m­ic year 2006-07 he was grant­ed a Socrates/Erasmus schol­ar­ship to study in the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne com­po­si­tion with York Höller, elec­tron­ic com­po­si­tion with Hans Ulrich Humpert, instru­men­ta­tion with Krzysztof Mey­er and organ with Johannes Gef­fert.

In 2010, he received a doc­tor­ate in musi­cal arts in the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music and earned the high­est degree in com­po­si­tion (Konz­er­tex­a­m­en) from the Hochschule für Musik in Karl­sruhe where he stud­ied with Wolf­gang Rihm.

He has been select­ed to take part in the Pro­gramme for the Pro­mo­tion of 13 Com­posers (2007–2010), orga­nized by the Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Euro­pean Music Cen­tre. He was been grant­ed the titles: Primus Inter Pares 2007 (2nd in the Mazov­ian Region) and Primus Inter Pares 2008.

He has par­tic­i­pat­ed in mas­ter class­es of com­po­si­tion (taught by Olga Neuwirth, Paul Edlin, Dominic Mul­downey, Rod­er­ick Watkins, Philip Wil­by), organ music inter­pre­ta­tion (by Karol Gołębiows­ki, Edgar Krapp, Ger­hard Wein­berg­er, Gary Verkade, Wolf­gang Zer­er), and organ impro­vi­sa­tion (by Tomasz Adam Nowak, Daniel Roth).

Dar­iusz Przy­byl­s­ki is a win­ner of numer­ous com­pos­er and organ com­pe­ti­tions. He also received a schol­ar­ship of the Young Tal­ents ZE PAK Foun­da­tion (2003), a Min­istry of Cul­ture schol­ar­ship (2003, 2006), a schol­ar­ship from the Leopold Kro­nen­berg Bank­ing Foun­da­tion (2005), the Award of the Min­is­ter of Cul­ture and Nation­al Her­itage (2006), schol­ar­ships from Keimyung Research Foun­da­tion (2006), Socrates/Erasmus (2006), Young Poland (2007), the Pol­ish Tele­vi­sion (as an award in the pro­gramme Cre­ative Val­ley, 2008), DAAD-Schol­ar­ship 2009/10.

As an organ­ist, Dar­iusz Przy­byl­s­ki has giv­en con­certs in many Pol­ish cities as well as abroad. New music has pride of place in his reper­toire, and he has giv­en numer­ous first per­for­mances of new works. He also per­forms as an impro­vis­er.

His com­po­si­tions have been per­formed in, among oth­ers, the Pol­ish Radio Witold Lutosławs­ki Con­cert Stu­dio in War­saw, dur­ing the Inter­na­tion­al Evenings of Organ and Cham­ber Music in Kłodzko (2004), Music Days in Mikołów (2005), the Adam Didur Fes­ti­val in Sanok (2005), the “Musi­ca Sacra” Inter­na­tion­al Fes­ti­val in War­saw (2005), the Musi­ca Poloni­ca Nova Fes­ti­val in Wrocław (2006), Musi­ca Mod­er­na Fes­ti­val in ŁódŸ (2006), Inter­na­tion­al Days of Music by Cracow’s Com­posers (2006), the New Music – New Faces Fes­ti­val (2006, 2007), War­saw Music Encoun­ters (2007, 2008), Poz­nań Music Spring (2008), the Fes­ti­val of Music Com­pe­ti­tion Win­ners in Byd­goszcz (2008), Cross­drum­ming Fes­ti­val (2008), The Gaude Mater Inter­na­tion­al Fes­ti­val of Sacred Music in Częs­to­chowa (2008), the War­saw Autumn fringe events (2006–08), as well as abroad in Aus­tria, Ger­many, Swe­den, Great Britain, and Belarus.

Przybylski’s music can be found on com­pact discs (released by DUX, Megavox, and POLMIC). The CD with his Bogurodz­i­ca (Moth­er of God, 2003) for solo organ per­formed by Andrzej Chorosińs­ki on the organ of the Basil­i­ca in Licheń became a Dou­ble Plat­inum Disc, where­as his CD “20 Years of the Organ Con­ver­sato­ri­um in Leg­ni­ca” (DUX) was nom­i­nat­ed for the Fry­deryk Award of the Pol­ish music indus­try in 2005.

In 2006, Przy­byl­s­ki took part in the inter­na­tion­al com­po­si­tion project Mozart Pyra­mid held in Can­ter­bury (Eng­land) as part of the Mozart Year, as well as in the project 60 Com­mis­sions for the 60th Anniver­sary of the Pol­ish Com­posers’ Union. Dar­iusz Przy­byl­s­ki is a mem­ber of the PCU Youth Cir­cle, in which he held the func­tion of sec­re­tary in 2006-08. Since 2008, he has been the Pres­i­dent of the Youth Cir­cle.
