Professor Bronisława Kawalla-Ryszka

Descen­dant and con­tin­u­a­tor of a fam­ily music tra­di­tion. Grad­u­ate of the Fry­deryk Chopin Acad­emy of Music in War­saw. Win­ner of many pres­ti­gious piano com­pe­ti­tions includ­ing the Inter­na­tional Bach Com­pe­ti­tion in Wash­ing­ton in 1975. A dis­tin­guished pianist and greatly respected teacher. She deep­ened her knowl­edge of music in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, Monique Haas and Philippe Entremont at Acad­e­mie Inter­na­tionale de Mau­rice Ravel.

Bro­nisława Kawalla has per­formed at renowned con­cert halls in Europe, Canada, USA, Asia and Latin Amer­ica. This Pol­ish pianist has been applauded at inter­na­tional fes­ti­vals, e.g., in Bal­ti­more, Bratislava, Chel­tenham, Duszniki and Mar­ián­ské Lazně. Bro­nisława Kawalla also plays with well-known sym­phony orches­tras includ­ing the National Phil­har­monic, the Grand Pol­ish Radio Sym­phony Orches­tra in Katow­ice, Berliner Sin­fonie Orch­ester, the Dublin Radio and Tele­vi­sion Orches­tra, and many others.

Bro­nisława Kawalla is a suc­cess­ful teacher. Over a span of more than 30 years she has edu­cated over 60 Pol­ish and for­eign stu­dents who grad­u­ated from her class at the Acad­emy of Music in War­saw. Not only Pol­ish pianists ben­e­fit from her knowl­edge and skills. The Pol­ish pro­fes­sor is known and val­ued at renowned acad­e­mies in the USA, UK, Japan, Ger­many, Spain, Switzer­land and other coun­tries all over the world.

Pro­fes­sor Kawalla is also invited to give mas­ter courses and lec­tures, mainly on the inter­pre­ta­tion of Fry­deryk Chopin’s work, at home and abroad. Her stu­dents and for­mer stu­dents have won many prizes at piano com­pe­ti­tions in Poland and abroad and they are active per­form­ers and teach at music acad­e­mies and schools. Edward Wolanin, Filip Woj­ciechowski, Paweł Mazurkiewicz and Radosław Sobczak (the best Pole at the 14th Inter­na­tional Fry­deryk Chopin Piano Com­pe­ti­tion in 2002) are just some of Pro­fes­sor Bro­nisława Kawalla’s for­mer students.

Vol­un­tary work occu­pies an impor­tant place in Pro­fes­sor Kawalla’s life. A mem­ber of the exec­u­tive board of the Karol Szy­manowski Soci­ety in Zakopane until recently, she has now been elected vice-chairman of the exec­u­tive board of the Fry­deryk Chopin Soci­ety. Pro­fes­sor Bro­nisława Kawalla is a found­ing mem­ber of the “Nike” Lions Club in Poland.

Bro­nisława Kawalla holds sev­eral awards for her teach­ing and artis­tic work, granted to her by the Min­istry of Cul­ture and Art and the Min­is­ter for For­eign Affairs.
