Professor Andrzej Wróbel

Graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in 1972 and was employed there that same year. He began his artistic career when he was still a student. In 1966–86 he was a member of the National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra directed by Karol Teutsch.
In 1972 he and J. Tawroszewicz founded the “Polish Quartet” string quartet. Together with this ensemble he won prizes at several competitions: Colmar — 1st prize, Belgrad — 2nd prize, Munich — 3rd prize. The Quartet made many recordings for German, Swiss, French and Polish radios. It also made a record for Polskie Nagrania. Unfortunately the Quartet broke up in 1981.
In 1972–73 Andrzej Wróbel also worked for the National Philharmonic orchestra. He was concertmaster at the Warsaw Chamber Opera from 1972 to 1985. Together with Jerzy Maksymiuk he founded the Polish Chamber Orchestra. In 1986 he established another chamber ensemble, “Camerata Vistula”, which he still manages. The group is very active. It plays in many countries in Europe and America and makes records which get excellent reviews in magazines devoted to CDs.
In addition to playing chamber music Andrzej Wróbel is also a soloist. He plays both classical and contemporary music and has made several recordings for Polish and German record producers. He has edited many pieces for chamber ensembles, the most important of which are the first chamber versions of all Chopin’s works for piano and orchestra since Chopin’s times. He has also edited C. Debussy’s 6 Antique Epigraphs for a string orchestra (and a later version for a string quartet). He published I. F. Dobrzyński’s Piano Trio and Z. Noskowski’s 2nd String Quartet in PWM. He also edited A. Stolpe’s Variations for String Quartet, Piano sextet and Dramatic Scene, J. Nowakowski’s Piano Quintet and many other examples of Polish chamber music.
In 2003 he organised the 1st Polish Chamber Music Festival and in 2004 he organised the 2nd edition of the festival.
In addition to the aforementioned activities Andrzej Wróbel organises concerts. During the twenty years as manager of “Camerata Vistula” he organised several hundred concerts.
