Andrzej Gęb­s­ki – vio­lin­ist, soloist, cham­ber musi­cian, ped­a­gogue; he start­ed learn­ing to play the vio­lin at the age of sev­en. He com­plet­ed his vio­lin stud­ies at the Fry­deryk Chopin Acad­e­my of Music in War­saw, class of Pro­fes­sor Mirosław Ławrynow­icz in 1997, with a diplo­ma with hon­ours (out­stand­ing). The artist devel­oped his skills under Wolf­gang Marschn­er and Krysty­na Makows­ka, and Andrzej Wró­bel (cham­ber music).

He is a prize-win­ner of the 4th Inter­na­tion­al Karol Szy­manows­ki Vio­lin Com­pe­ti­tion in Łódź, the 2nd Krzysztof Pen­derec­ki Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion of Con­tem­po­rary Cham­ber Music and the 11th Pierre Lantier Inter­na­tion­al Com­pe­ti­tion of Music Inter­pre­ta­tion in Paris. Since 1997 he has been a mem­ber of the Cam­er­a­ta Vis­tu­la Cham­ber Ensem­ble under Andrzej Wró­bel, and since 2002 he has been its 1st Vio­lin­ist. In 1998, togeth­er with Jarosław Domżał and Joan­na Ławrynow­icz he estab­lished the War­saw Trio, with which he did some record­ings. As a soloist and cham­ber musi­cian Andrzej Gęb­s­ki par­tic­i­pat­ed in numer­ous music events, per­form­ing in Poland (in all Pol­ish Phil­har­mon­ics), Ger­many, France, Turk­menistan, Aus­tria, Switzer­land, Spain, Venezuela, Chi­na and Tai­wan.

The artist pro­motes the Pol­ish music, he played 54 first per­for­mances and archive record­ings of pieces by con­tem­po­rary Pol­ish com­posers for the Pol­ish Radio and Tele­vi­sion, as well as he record­ed 16 CD albums with the Pol­ish music (includ­ing 10 CDs for the “Acte Préal­able” com­pa­ny), which are phono­graph­ic first per­for­mances.

The coop­er­a­tion of Andrzej Wró­bel, a cel­list and tire­less pro­mot­er of the Pol­ish music, with Kon­stan­ty Andrzej Kul­ka, one of Poland’s most out­stand­ing vio­lin­ist, result­ed in the cre­ation of a trio per­form­ing vio­lin and cham­ber pieces by Karol Lip­ińs­ki. The trio con­sist­ing of: Kon­stan­ty Andrzej Kul­ka – soloist, Andrzej Gęb­s­ki and Andrzej Wró­bel, per­formed almost 100 mono­graph­ic con­certs with Lipiński’s music, and the crown­ing of this activ­i­ty was the release of an album (6CDs!) with 23 pieces by Lip­ińs­ki in 2012.

Since 1998 Andrzej Gęb­s­ki has also worked as a teacher at his par­ent Uni­ver­si­ty. In 2003 he obtained a doc­tor­al degree, in 2008 he obtained a post-doc­tor­al degree (his the­sis was a pub­li­ca­tion enti­tled Zagad­nienia wykon­aw­cze utworów na skrzypce i fortepi­an Romual­da Twar­dowskiego). Since 2011 Andrzej Gęb­s­ki is Uni­ver­si­ty Pro­fes­sor at the Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music.

Since 2000 he has run the vio­lin class at the elite Zenon Brzews­ki Gen­er­al Music School in War­saw (Ogól­nok­sz­tałcą­ca Szkoła Muzy­cz­na im. Z. Brzewskiego), and since 2002 he has run the string orches­tra at that school. He formed this orches­tra under the name “The Zenon Brzews­ki War­saw String Orches­tra” and he gives con­certs with them in pres­ti­gious con­cert halls, such as at the Nation­al Phil­har­mon­ic, the FCUM, the Unesco Hall in Paris, and oth­er key music cen­tres. This is the orches­tra with which re record­ed all pieces for string orches­tra by Romuald Twar­dows­ki. More­over, Andrzej Gęb­s­ki runs the vio­lin class at the Inter­na­tion­al Music Cours­es in Łań­cut, Stre­ich Akademie in Goch (Ger­many), as well as music work­shops of the “Nation­al Children’s Fund”, focus­ing the most tal­ent­ed youth of Poland. He is a jury mem­ber at vio­lin com­pe­ti­tions and audi­tions: Inter­na­tion­al G. Ph. Tele­mann Vio­lin Com­pe­ti­tion in Poz­nań, Inter­na­tion­al H. Wieni­aws­ki Com­pe­ti­tion for Young Vio­lin­ists in Lublin, Interi­na­tion­al Pro­fes­sor M. Ławrynow­icz Vio­lin Com­pe­ti­tion in Płock, All-Poland S. Serwaczyńs­ki Com­pe­ti­tion for Young Vio­lin­ists in Lublin, CEA Audi­tions and oth­ers.

Andrzej Gęb­s­ki is the author of 20 per­for­mance guides for vio­lin pieces pub­lished by the Pol­ish Music Pub­lish­ers (Pol­skie Wydawnict­wo Muzy­czne) and the “Euterpe” pub­lish­ers.

He has received many awards for his teach­ing and artis­tic achieve­ments, e.g.: Spe­cial Award and 1st Degree Award of the Min­is­ter of Cul­ture and Nation­al Her­itage, Award of the Head of the Cen­tre of Artis­tic Edu­ca­tion (three times) and Medal “For Mer­its to Cul­ture Glo­ria Artis”, Medal of the FCUM and Medal of the Radzyń Music Soci­ety.

He plays the instru­ment by a con­tem­po­rary Pol­ish vio­lin-mak­er Woj­ciech Topa.
