Depart­ment 2 instructs instru­men­tal spe­cial­ists with the fol­low­ing Spe­cial­ties: Piano Play­ing, Harp­si­chord Play­ing, Organ Play­ing and Piano Cham­ber Music.

The piano class trains vir­tu­oso pianists and also pre­pares stu­dents for work in cham­ber orches­tras and teach­ing. Com­pul­so­ry sub­jects (e.g.): piano, cham­ber music and jazz impro­vi­sa­tion on the 1st degree Stud­ies (BA Stud­ies) and spe­cial­ist lit­er­a­ture, propaedeu­tics of con­tem­po­rary piano music, instru­ment con­struc­tion, and harp­si­chord or organ lit­er­a­ture on the 2nd degree Stud­ies (MA Stud­ies). Piano class­es are taught by: Pro­fes­sor Krzysztof Jabłońs­ki, Pro­fes­sor Anna Jas­trzęb­s­ka-Quinn, Pro­fes­sor Paweł Kamińs­ki, Pro­fes­sor Elż­bi­eta Karaś-Krasz­tel, Pro­fes­sor Joan­na Ławrynow­icz-Just, Pro­fes­sor Alic­ja Pale­ta-Bugaj, Pro­fes­sor Ewa Pobłoc­ka, Pro­fes­sor Jerzy Ster­czyńs­kiPro­fes­sor Elż­bi­eta Tar­nawska, Pro­fes­sor Edward Wolanin, Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor Agniesz­ka Prze­myk-Bryła, Lec­tur­er Janusz Olejniczak.

The harp­si­chord class trains vir­tu­oso harp­si­chord play­ers and also pre­pares stu­dents for work in cham­ber orches­tras and teach­ing. Major sub­jects on the 1st degree Stud­ies (BA Stud­ies) are (among oth­ers): harp­si­chord, cham­ber music, bas­so con­tin­uo, har­mo­nia, and exe­cu­tion of Musi­ca Anti­qua; on the 2nd degree Stud­ies (MA Stud­ies): instru­ment con­struc­tion, impro­vi­sa­tion and oth­ers. Harp­si­chord class­es are taught by: Pro­fes­sor Ali­na Ratkows­ka and Senior Lec­tur­er Władysław Kłosiewicz.

The organ class trains vir­tu­oso organ­ists and also pre­pares stu­dents for work in the fields of cul­ture and teach­ing. Major sub­jects on the 1st degree Stud­ies (BA Stud­ies) are (among oth­ers): organ, cham­ber music, bas­so con­tin­uo, Gre­go­ri­an chorale and litur­gi­cal play­ing. On the 2nd degree Stud­ies (MA Stud­ies) major sub­jects are also: organol­o­gy, spe­cial­ist lit­er­a­ture and. Organ class­es are taught by: Pro­fes­sor Andrzej Chorosińs­ki, Pro­fes­sor Jerzy Dzi­u­bińs­ki, Pro­fes­sor Jarosław Malanow­icz, Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor Bar­tosz Jakubczak, Pro­fes­sor Jarosław Wróblews­ki.

The class of piano cham­ber music. It edu­cates pianists, singers and instru­men­tal­ists by let­ting them devel­op as soloists and vir­tu­oso per­form­ers; it gives them a pro­fes­sion­al and psy­cho­log­i­cal basis in cham­ber music play­ing; it gives them the knowl­edge, skills and the abil­i­ty to work as a team in the spir­it of a musi­cal part­ner­ship. It pre­pares them for hold­ing func­tions in dif­fer­ent musi­cal insti­tu­tions, such as music schools at var­i­ous lev­els. It cov­ers BA and MA stud­ies. Class­es of Piano Cham­ber Music are run by: Pro­fes­sor Krysty­na Makows­ka-Ławrynow­icz, Pro­fes­sor Katarzy­na Jankows­ka-Borzykows­ka, Pro­fes­sor Ella Sus­man­ek, Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor Joan­na Mak­lakiewicz, Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor Iwona Miro­niuk, Assis­tant Pro­fes­sor Robert Morawski.

There are indi­vid­ual class­es in piano, cham­ber music and organ play­ing (or harp­si­chord play­ing) orga­nized as part of Post­grad­u­ate Artis­tic Train­ing. The Depart­ment also offers Post­grad­u­ate Stud­ies for Pianists in the Spe­cialty “Coach­ing” and Post­grad­u­ate Inter­de­part­men­tal Song Inter­pre­ta­tion Course.

From the Aca­d­e­m­ic Year 2012/2013 can­di­dates for the sec­ond degree stud­ies can apply for widen­ing their cho­sen Major with mul­ti­me­dia sub­jects, in a form of an indi­vid­ual plan of stud­ies, as part of the project called the Inter-Uni­ver­si­ty Mul­ti­me­dia Pro­gram (MSM) run by the Depart­ment of Sound Engi­neer­ing, which is a con­tin­u­a­tion of the project co-financed by the Oper­at­ing Pro­gramme “Human Cap­i­tal” as part of the Euro­pean Social Fund.
