UNIT OF HARP, GUITAR AND PERCUSSION
Unit of Harp, Guitar and Percussion combines educational, artistic and scholarly activity of pedagogues of these three specialties. The name of this unit, accepted by the Senate in 2009, officially became a part of the Department’s structure on 1st October 2009. In previous years it consisted of two units – Unit of Harp and Guitar, which for many years was run by Professor Urszula Mazurek, and Unit of Percussion, run by Professor Edward Iwicki since 1984.
The Unit organises its didactic work, supervises it so that it is carried out correctly and the right level is maintained within all areas of orchestra, solo and chamber music, as well as at intramural and PhD studies and Postgraduate Artistic Training; it also prepares curricula for primary and secondary music schools. Children, who completed a three-year original programme of harp playing created by Professor Urszula Mazurek, achieved great results.
As part of its widely understood activity the Unit carries out various organisational undertakings: music workshops with outstanding artists and composers, promotional concerts for above-average students, concerts exchanged with other universities, and concerts performed by lecturers and students of the FCUM. It is in permanent contact with many pedagogues from universities in Poland and abroad, as well as with the Percussive Arts Society from the USA.
Pedagogues of the Unit give concerts, are jury members at music competitions in Poland and abroad, participate in scholarly sessions, organise seminars, master courses, music workshops and concerts.
