Aural Training and Harmony Laboratory

On 30 Sep­tem­ber 2016, the Interuni­ver­si­ty Chair of Aur­al Train­ing was dis­solved.

The Chair of Aur­al Train­ing is respon­si­ble for research, teach­ing and con­sult­ing. It is made up of aur­al train­ing spe­cial­ists from Fry­deryk Chopin Uni­ver­si­ty of Music and acad­e­mies of music in Byd­goszcz, Gdańsk, Katow­ice, Łódź, Poz­nań and Wrocław. Until the year 2003, also the aur­al train­ing ped­a­gogues of Acad­e­my of Music in Kraków had par­tic­i­pat­ed in the activ­i­ties of the Chair.

Research is car­ried out in two units: the Unit of Aur­al Train­ing and the Unit of Aur­al Music Per­cep­tion. The fol­low­ing sub­ject areas are stud­ied:

The Chair doc­u­ments all Pol­ish research on aur­al train­ing and also col­lects scores and record­ings for the Nation­al Solfeg­gio Library which is now being devel­oped.

The Chair’s research find­ings and con­fer­ence pro­ceed­ings are pub­lished in the Chair of Aur­al Train­ing Bul­letin Z prac Miedzyuczel­ni­anej Kat­edry Ksz­tałce­nia Słuchu.

The Chair’s teach­ing and con­sult­ing activ­i­ties include super­vi­sion of the teach­ing of aur­al train­ing at music acad­e­mies and less advanced lev­els of music instruc­tion. Spe­cial atten­tion is paid to the train­ing of teach­ers spe­cial­is­ing in aur­al train­ing. The Chair organ­is­es cours­es, sem­i­nars and work­shops for pupils and teach­ers and also pub­lish­es didac­tic mate­ri­als for music schools. Mem­bers of the Chair teach at nation­al and inter­na­tion­al music cours­es. The Chair also super­vis­es mas­ters’ the­ses in aur­al train­ing all over the coun­try.

The Chair of Aur­al Train­ing co-oper­ates with the Chair of Music Edu­ca­tion, the Chair of Musi­cal Acoustics and sev­er­al for­eign cen­tres: Con­ser­va­toire de Musique (Nev­ers), Con­ser­va­toire Nation­al de Paris and the Kodá­ly Insti­tute in Kecskemét.
