This Depart­ment pre­pares stu­dents for gen­eral and school music edu­ca­tion. Stu­dents can major in con­duct­ing of instru­men­tal and vocal ensem­bles, choir con­duct­ing, school music (day and evening courses), church music, rhyth­mics and bal­let teach­ers train­ing (eight semes­ters, extra­mural course). Stud­ies at this depart­ment are addressed to ensem­ble con­duc­tors and com­pre­hen­sive and music school teach­ers. There is a rich syl­labus of group and indi­vid­ual classes. Main sub­jects include:

Choir con­duct­ing — con­duct­ing, meth­ods of con­duct­ing vocal and instru­men­tal ensem­bles, music lit­er­a­ture, psy­chol­ogy, ped­a­gogy, aural train­ing, voice and meth­ods of voice train­ing, score read­ing and analy­sis, piano accom­pa­ni­ment classes, and vocal and instru­men­tal ensem­bles;

Church music - organ, litur­gi­cal accom­pa­ni­ment, impro­vi­sa­tion and basso con­tinuo, voice and enun­ci­a­tion, con­duct­ing classes;

Rhyth­mics - rhyth­mics, rhyth­mics ensem­ble, move­ment tech­niques, danc­ing, piano impro­vi­sa­tion, meth­ods of rhyth­mics, musi­cal appre­ci­a­tion method­ol­ogy, psy­chol­ogy, ped­a­gogy, sem­i­nar on Dalcroze’s method and teach­ing train­ing;

Bal­let teach­ers train­ing - meth­ods of dance (clas­si­cal, folk, char­ac­ter­is­tic and his­tor­i­cal), con­tem­po­rary dance and method­ol­ogy, jazz dance and method­ol­ogy, prin­ci­ples of dance com­po­si­tion, dance lit­er­a­ture, part­ner danc­ing, meth­ods of musi­cal ensem­ble train­ing, ped­a­gogy, psy­chol­ogy, teach­ing prac­tice, aes­thet­ics of dance, and his­tory of bal­let.
