The ensem­ble was founded in 1967. It con­sist of Pro­fes­sors Tadeusz Gadz­ina and Paweł Łosakiewicz (vio­lin), Ryszard Duź (viola) and cel­list Mar­ian Wasiółka. They per­formed in all the coun­tries of Europe and both Amer­i­cas. For many years the ensem­ble was a per­ma­nent guest of the Joli­ette Fes­ti­val in Canada, apart from this it par­tic­i­pated in the most impor­tant Euro­pean fes­ti­vals, includ­ing “The War­saw Autumn” Fes­ti­val (for almost 20 years), receiv­ing its prize named “Orfeus”.
The ensem­ble is a prize-winner of the com­pe­ti­tions in Vienna (1971), Bor­deaux (1972) and Munich (1973), as well as the ZKP (1986, 1990) and the Min­istries of For­eign Affairs and of Cul­ture (2002) awards, and prizes for their record­ings (“Dia­pa­son d’Or” for the album Musique de Cham­bre with W. Lutosławski’s music and for the record­ing of E. Grieg’s quar­tets).
A large part of their enor­mous reper­toire has been recorded on 30 albums released by such com­pa­nies as Sonoton Pro Viva, Accord, Tudor, Pro Viva, Olimpia, Col Legno, Pol­skie Nagra­nia, Ton­press, Veri­ton, Acte Préal­able. The quar­tet coop­er­ated with the most out­stand­ing musi­cians of the world, for exam­ple: Gidon Kre­mer, Grig­orij Zhis­lin, Dmitry Sitkovet­sky, Bella Davi­dovich, András Schiff, Ralf Gothóni, Szábolcs Esztényi, Elż­bi­eta Gajew­ska, Janusz Ole­jniczak, Władysław Kłosiewicz, Adam Makow­icz, Ste­fan Kamasa, Tomasz Strahl and oth­ers.
The mem­bers of the ensem­ble are lec­tur­ers at music uni­ver­si­ties, where they rum instru­men­tal and cham­ber mas­ter classes.
