The FCUM BIG-BAND

Artistic Manager — Ryszard Borowski

The FCUM Big-Band was established at Professor Bogumił Gadawski’s initiative. The Band gave its inaugural concert at the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music Concert Hall on 27 march 2006 and was very successful. The Band is largely made up of students of the FCAM (now FCUM) Department of Instrumental Studies and is occasionally reinforced by students of the Jazz Unit of the Fryderyk Chopin Music School Complex in Warsaw. Currently the band’s performances are permanently present in the University’s concert calendar: last season the artists gave a concert twice — the first time they presented a medley of popular jazz standards, the second time in turn, together with the students of the Fryderyk Chopin Music School Complex in Warsaw, they had a similat performance — Duke Ellingtos’s standards — in the so-called big-band battle, during which Duke Ellington’s standards were performed. In 2007/2008 season the group played monographic concerts devoted to the works by Gil Evans and Miles Davies while the presentations of the previous season were concerts titled Isnt’t she lovely and Our Songs.
