CHOPIN ACADEMIA ORCHESTRA
Artistic Director — Professor Jan Stanienda
At Professor Błażej Sroczyński’s suggestion Jan Stanienda founded the Chopin Academia Orchestra in 1995. The band consists of selected students and graduates from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music, prize-winners of domestic and international competitions. From the very beginning, the founder, the outstanding violinist Jan Stanienda, has performed the duties of artistic director and conductor. His passion, experience and high requirements concerning the musicians, combined with the talent and great devotion of the young instrumentalists, result in the musical creations of the highest order.
Chopin Academia Orchestra cooperated with such outstanding artists as: V. Yagling, N. Gerner, O. Baadsvik, R. Zimak, J. Stanienda, K. Duda, M. Zdunik, J. Olejniczak, E. Wolanin, P. Kowalski, J. Kortus, J. Jakowicz, T. Wojnowicz, G. Nowak, T. Wojciechowski. The orchestra has many recordings on its scorecard, e.g. for the DUX recording company. Apart from its mother university, the ensemble has also performed in the National Philharmonic, Pomeranian Philharmonic, the Lutosławski Concert Studio, the John Paul II Collection Museum and on the festivals: Organ Festival in Lublin, the Janáček Festival in Hukvaldy, the “Young-Euro Classic” Festival in Berlin, “In the Land of Chopin” in Babice Stare, European Music Festival in Otwock. One of their most important presentations were: a performance in the Congress Hall in Warsaw at the invitation of the J. Kwaśniewska “Communication without Barriers” Foundation (2003), premiere performance of the contemporary operas: “Alpha Kryonia Xe” by A. Gryka and “Fedra” by D. Jaskot in the Chamber Hall of the National Opera (2006), participation in the cinema shows of the Oscar-winning cartoon “Peter and the Wolf” based on the orchestral tale by Prokofiev at the invitation of the English company Breakthru Films (2007) and a performance in the prestigious Poly Theatre Hall in Beijing, inaugurating the Polish Culture Days in China.
