Professor Kazimierz Gierżod passed away

I regret to inform that prof. dr hab. Kaz­imierz Gierżod unex­pect­ed­ly passed away at the age of 82 on 1 April.

He was a pianist, grad­u­ate and long-time aca­d­e­m­ic teacher at our Uni­ver­si­ty; in the peri­od of 1975–1987 he was Dean of the Depart­ment of Piano, Harp­si­chord and Organ, and Rec­tor of our Uni­ver­si­ty between 1987 and 1993. He also chaired the board of the Fry­deryk Chopin Soci­ety in War­saw.

Pro­fes­sor Kaz­imierz Gierżod was the tutor of a few gen­er­a­tions of pianists, prize-win­ners of inter­na­tion­al music com­pe­ti­tions. He many times sat on the jury of inter­na­tion­al music com­pe­ti­tions.

I would like to express my sin­cere con­do­lences to his fam­i­ly, for­mer stu­dents, friends and col­leagues.

The funer­al of late Prof. Kaz­imierz Gierżod will tak­ing place on Mon­day 9 April, 11:00 hrs, will start with a Mass at the Church of Blessed Vir­gin Mary, Moth­er of Church, in Otrębusy, address: ul. Sad­owa 14.
For our aca­d­e­m­ic com­mu­ni­ty mem­bers will­ing to attend Prof. Kaz­imierz Gierżod’s obse­quies, there will be a coach pro­vid­ed by the uni­ver­si­ty, which will wait in front of the FCUM at 9.15, depar­ture at 9.30.
