Chair of Piano
In the academic year 2006/2007, on the motion of the pianist and teaching community, the Senate founded the Chair of Piano, a merger of two previously existing units: Chair of Piano I and Chair of Piano II. Professor Alicja Paleta-Bugaj was appointed Head of the Chair.
The purpose of the Chair is to draw upon the existing rich didactic, artistic and research achievements to provide students with better and better conditions in which to develop their pianist skills by means of systematic elevation of the quality of instruction.
Didactic activities
- Comprehensive training of pianists, with due consideration of their individual dispositions, so as to prepare them for their future concert career, solo and chamber (together with the Chair of Chamber Piano Music), and for participation in piano competitions in Poland and abroad. Utilisation, as fully as possible, of the very rich canon of Polish and world piano literature, paying particular attention to the work of Fryderyk Chopin. It is assumed that original charter programs prepared by the teachers of the different classes will become increasingly important.
- Training for research and teaching work relating to pianism.
- Concerts and master courses for FCUM students led by distinguished lecturers from Poland and abroad.
- Courses for foreign students.
- Post-graduate studies.
- Co-operation with lower level music schools (didactic work, consultations, courses, seminars, lectures).
- Participation of the Chair faculty in the work of juries of numerous national and international piano competitions, conducting of master courses in other national and international centres.
Artistic activities
- Student artistic activities in the University and elsewhere, including anniversary monographic concerts, concerts organised within exchange programs with other Polish colleges, guest concerts in foreign colleges, participation of the best graduates in symphonic concerts.
- Intensive artistic activity of the Chair Faculty at home and abroad.
Research and organisational activities
- Scientific-artistic sessions at the FCUM.
- Lectures by members of the Chair Faculty at national and international congresses, symposia and scientific sessions as well as specialist teaching courses for teachers and students.
- Publications in the FCUM Research Bulletin) and professional music journals.
- Co-operation with other FCUM Chairs.
- Participation of members of the Chair Faculty in various committees involved with music (music societies, music festivals), co-operation with the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage (giving opinions on piano-related issues and higher artistic education) and the Fryderyk Chopin Institute.
- Co-operation with The Foundation for the National Edition of the Works of Fryderyk Chopin relating to the edition itself and its promotion.
