Chair of Aural Training
The Chair of Aural Training is responsible for research, teaching and consulting. It is made up of aural training specialists from all the Polish academies of music.
Research is carried out in two units: the Unit of Aural Training and the Unit of Aural Music Perception. The following subject areas are studied:
- history and theory of aural training
- methods of aural training in Europe
- aural training of musicians representing different specialities
- aural perception of music representing different periods, styles and genres.
The Chair documents all Polish research on aural training and also collects scores and recordings for the National Solfeggio Library which is now being developed.
The Chair's research findings and conference proceedings are published in the Chair of Aural Training Bulletin "Z prac Miedzyuczelnianej Katedry Ksztalcenia Sluchu" edited by D. Dobrowolska-Marucha.
The Chair's teaching and consulting activities include supervision of the teaching of aural training at music academies and less advanced levels of music instruction. Special attention is paid to the training of teachers specialising in aural training. The Chair organises courses, seminars and workshops for pupils and teachers and also publishes didactic materials for music schools. Members of the Chair teach at national and international music courses. The Chair also supervises masters' theses in aural training all over the country.
The Chair consults in the following areas:
- it evaluates and reviews didactic and research publications, syllabuses and research projects
- its members sit on examination committees appointed by the Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts for the purpose of examining teachers
- it inspects and evaluates lessons at music schools
- it runs a consultation centre for pupils and pedagogues
- it produces and publishes teaching materials.
The Chair of Aural Training co-operates with the Chair of Music Psychology, the Chair of Musical Education, the Chair of Acoustics and several foreign centres: Conservatoire de Musique (Nevers), Conservatoire National de Paris and the Kodály Institute in Kecskemét.
