Postgraduate Course on Psychology of Music Course

Administration: Chair of Psychology of Music

Objectives: Improvement of knowledge of psychology of music and particularly knowledge and practical skills in:

  1. supporting the music development of children and adolescents,
  2. psychological and pedagogical counselling for music school pupils and teachers,
  3. administration and construction of tests and other methods of assessing music aptitude and achievement.
The course also prepares students to conduct their own research, e.g., for their doctoral dissertation.

Participants: The course is addressed to music school teachers, psychologists, educators, musicologists and musicians of every speciality who are interested in the psychology of music.

Duration: The course will last from January 2005 to June 2006. It consists of nine two-day sessions (Saturday/Sunday) in Warsaw and two sessions in Bialystok: one lasting a week in February and one lasting a fortnight during the summer holidays.

Curriculum: lectures and practical classes (exercises, training, attending lessons by pupil-teachers, etc.).

Lecturers: The course will be taught by professionals in music psychology and related disciplines including visiting lecturers from abroad - leaders in the major areas of music psychology.

Qualifications: Graduates of this course will be qualified to work in at least one of the three branches of music psychology listed under Objectives. Graduates will receive a diploma meeting the provisions of the Higher Education Act on the condition that they take active part in classes, get credit for all subjects and write an essay.

Price: about 4500 PLN (payable in rates). This sum covers classes, examination fees and an irreclaimable entrance fee (500 PLN). Participants must pay their own transport and lodgings. The organisers guarantee lodgings and meals during sessions away from Warsaw (payable by participants).

Recruitment: The following documents had to be submitted :
  1. Motivated application
  2. Photocopy of M.A. or licence diploma
  3. Confirmation of payment of fee - 500 PLN (this fee will be returned in case of non-acceptance to the course)
Admission will depend on the fulfilment of the conditions listed above (points 1-3) and the results of an interview which will take place at an appointed date (chosen by the candidate) in the presence of a representative of the Course Program Committee.
