Postgraduate Course on the Piano, Chamber Music, Organ and Harpsichord
This postgraduate course offers 2 hours a week of individual tuition in piano playing, chamber music and organ or harpsichord playing. Students can also attend group classes in one of the specialities taught at the University. This course is managed by the Dean of the Department of Piano. Organ and Harpsichord and lasts up to 3 years. Estimated cost: 500 PLN a month.
Postgraduate Studies
in Piano Chamber Music
- The organisational structure responsible for studies in piano chamber music is the CHAIR OF PIANO CHAMBER MUSIC at the Department of Piano, Organ and Harpsichord.
- The purpose of the studies is to further the development of mastery in chamber music and to expand the chamber repertory; the student may also negotiate a course of study with the leading professor, e.g., prepare a program for a competition or a concert, co-operate with soloists, prepare a song repertory etc.; in consideration of teachers' increasing willingness to improve their professional qualifications it is also possible to follow a teaching-oriented option with special focus on the methodics of teaching chamber music classes.
- The postgraduate studies are available to both Polish and foreign students, pianists and other instrumentalists who play with them as well as singers; basically the age limit is 35 (but exceptions can be made for active teachers).
- Studies are payable. The FCUM Senate fixes the price every year.
- In principle, the course lasts 2 years but may be shortened to 1 year or lengthened to 3 years if necessary and feasible. The course lasts 60 hours a year, 2 hours a week but classes may be integrated as long as frequency and dates are agreed with the leading professor.
- Applications must be submitted to the Dean's Office, Department of Piano Organ and Harpsichord, University of Music, Warsaw, by 5 September 2008.
- Applicants must show their diploma certifying completion of graduate studies in music and must pass an examination. For the examination applicants must prepare a more or less 50 minute program of chamber pieces from which the examination committee will choose pieces lasting a total of 25-30 minutes.
- The course ends with a graded examination. Students must prepare a 60 minute recital for the final examination.
- Students who pass the final examination successfully will receive a diploma certifying successful completion of postgraduate studies at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music.
- Students who do not pass the final examination successfully or do not take the examination for any reason may be issued a certificate of participation in the UMFC postgraduate studies.
In preparation is a program of extended specialist studies in the following topics:
- intensive playing a vista and transposition
- realisation of figured bass and playing in keys
- active participation in singing and instrumental lessons
- propaedeutics (ew. preparatory instruction) in counterpoint, conducting, voice emission and score reading
- opera and general vocal coaching
- elaboration and realisation of opera and concert orchestra score extracts
- realisation of opera and oratorio recitatives
- Italian German French, English, Russian and Polish elocution
- subject literature.

In the academic year 2008-2009 the Chair of Piano Chamber Music announces the enrolment for the postgraduate studies in vocal coaching. It is also possible to complete the artistic training in this field.
