Born in Warsaw in 1939. He studied the violin at the State College of Music (now the I. J. Paderewski Music Academy) in Poznań under Professor Edward Statkiewicz and graduated with honours. He then competed a two-year post-graduate course at the Royal Conservatory, Brussels (1966-1968) under Andre Gertler (violin) and Louis Poulet (chamber music). He graduated from both courses with honours. He continued to perfect his skills in Sienna at master courses conducted by Franco Gulli (violin) and Riccardo Brengola (chamber music).
In 1973-75 he performed with the National Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, as a soloist and member of the orchestra. He was concertmaster of the National Operatic Orchestra from 1964 to 2002. He was leading violinist and soloist in 1966-1982 and, as of 1975, was also artistic manager of the Soloist and Chamber Music Ensemble "Con moto ma cantabile" with which he frequently performed in Poland and abroad and made many recordings.
In 1968-1990 Marek Szwarc formed a duet with the Poznań pianist Professor Waldemar Andrzejewski with whom he gave many concerts in Poland and abroad. He began to lecture at the Music Academies in Poznań and £ód¼ in 1968 and has been a member of the faculty of the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw since 1991. At the AMFC he teaches orchestra studies for violinists and a chamber music class (speciality: string quartet). He has been head of the Interdepartmental Chair of Chamber Music at the AMFC. As of 1993 to this day he has also lectured at the International Master Courses in £ańcut where he teaches the violin and string chamber orchestra.
In the academic year 2004/2005 he taught a violin class at Keimyung Chopin Academy of Music in Daegu (South Korea).
