Born in Warsaw on 23rd March 1948. Graduated from the State Higher College of Music in Warsaw in Professor Stefan Kamasa's viola class in 1972.
In 1966-1971 he was a soloist of "Con moto ma cantabile", an ancient music ensemble. In 1971-1984 he was a member and soloist of the National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra managed by Karol Teutsh. Together with this orchestra he made numerous recordings for Polish Radio and Television, radio RIAS, radio Hilversum and radio Bayerischer. The orchestra had many concert tours all over the world. Marek Marczyk played with the orchestra as a soloist in, e.g., DDR, Czechoslovakia, Hungary, Rumania, The Federal Republic of Germany, Spain, Italy, France, Austria, United Kingdom, Holland, Finland, Sweden, Australia, Argentina, Brazil, Thailand, Japan and USA.
In 1972-1976 he was a member of Magdalena Rezler's String Quartet with which he won the 3rd prize at the International Chamber Music Competition in Budapest in 1973.
Marek Marczyk has been a member of the Polish Piano Quartet since 1986. This Quartet performs at home and abroad. He has recorded all the piano quartets by Mendelssohn, Noskowski, Żeleński and Beethoven for Polish Radio. In 1992 the Quartet recorded two compact discs with Polish music for the English record company Olympia. He has been a soloist and head of the viola section of the National Philharmonic Orchestra in Warsaw since 1983 and a member of the reactivated National Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra since 2002.
Professor Marek Marczyk has taught music since 1972. He is now Professor of a viola class and chamber music class at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw.
