The Sound Library
The Sound Library is an organisational unit of the AMFC Main Library.
A new Sound Library laboratory, the archival recording reconstruction laboratory, began to operate a year ago. Thanks to this laboratory we hope to archive our most precious collections on digital carriers.
The Sound Laboratory collects music in the following forms:
- analogue records, collected since 1960 - the collection now numbers 12880 records (the most valuable one's will gradually be reconstructed and archived on digital carriers);
- studio recordings produced by the Sound Library - the collection now numbers about 1600 items (these recordings are being gradually reconstructed and archived on digital carriers);
- documentary tape-recordings of concerts which have been given at the AMFC since 1964 - the collection now numbers about 1300 items;
- compact discs (CDs) - of which there are now 5238; the collection is continually being enlarged;
- DVD discs - there are currently 109 and the collection is continually being enlarged;
- documentation of concerts at the AMFC, registered on CDs since 1996 - the collection now numbers 776 items;
- documentation of music competitions at the AMFC - the collection now numbers 137 items;
- other recordings (music tests, occasional recordings, CD copies, audio cassettes, video cassettes, recordings of popular music, other).
The AMFC Sound Library collection is catalogued on index cards.
Only AMFC students, faculty and employees have access to the Sound Library collections. Students can listen to selected pieces in one of four cabins. They can also record selected fragments on audio cassettes (the cabins are equipped with a cassette tape recorder, amplifier and loudspeakers).
The Sound Library does not lend any materials off the AMFC premises and does not make any copies of its collections.
