The Mixed Choir of The Fryderyk Chopin University of Music is made up of freshmen and sophomores of the following departments: Composition, Conducting and Music Theory (I), Department of Piano, Harpsichord and Organ (II), Department of Instrumental Studies - Guitar and Accordion Units (III), Department of Musical Education (V) and Department of Sound Engineering (VI).
The choir, with its more than 120 performers, takes active part in the artistic life of the University. It sings a cappella and also cooperates with the FCUM Symphony Orchestra to give great vocal-instrumental productions. The choir has been managed by Professors Józef Bok, Henryk Wojnarowski and Maciej Ja¶kiewicz. In the period of 1982-2006 the artistic director of the choir was Professor Ryszard Zimak; at present this function is held by Professor Krzysztof Kusiel-Moroz.
The choir's most important achievements include J. S. Bach's Magnificat, conducted by Stanisław Wisłocki, K. Szymanowski's Stabat Mater and F. Poulenc's Stabat Mater conducted by Bogusław Madey and the final part of L. van Beethoven's IX Symphony conducted by Kazimierz Kord. Under the direction of Professor Ryszard Zimak, the Choir has performed, among other things: W. A. Mozart's Requiem, Coronation Mass, Vesperae solennes de confessore, J. S. Bach's Easter-Oratorio and Mass in B-Minor, G. F. Händel's Dettingen Te Deum, G. Fauré's Requiem, K. Szymanowski's Kurpie Songs and Stabat Mater, G. Verdi's Requiem and I. Stravinsky's Symphony of Psalms. The choir gave the first performance of Witold Rudziński's Ostrobramska Litany and also has presented Carl Orff's famous secular cantata, Carmina Burana (April 2001) and Stanisław Moryto's Stabat Mater (March 2002), both of which were later repeated at the Concert Hall of the National Philharmonic. In May 2003 the choir participated in concert of Polish works in Düsseldorf: Stabat Mater by Karol Szymanowski and Stabat Mater by Stanisław Moryto together with Symphony Orchestra of Robert Schumann Hochschule für Musik. Recently the choir has performed Dies Irae by M. Borkowski, oratorio The Seasons by J. Haydn and Petite Messe Solennelle by G. Rossini, and for the close of the last year's artistic season it performed Antonin Dvořák's Mass in D Major.
In addition to its concert activities, the Mixed Choir of the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music takes active part in the life of the school. It sings at the annual inaugurations of the academic year and at various celebrations, such as the presentation of the Honorary Doctoral Degree to outstanding representatives of the artistic community.
