A magnificent Baroque castle, a beautiful park and a music school in the park, provide a romantic environment for the International Music Courses held each July. The courses are offered to players of the violin, viola, cello and double-bass, classical guitar, lute, viola da gamba, as well as to string chamber orchestras and teachers of string instruments. Originally, the Lancut course was for students and graduates of Music Academies and Conservatories, but to meet the demand, in the last few years a course for young string instrumentalists has also been offered to gifted pupils from primary and secondary music schools.
The participants have individual tuition (as active participants or observers), they can play in string chamber orchestra directed by eminent conductors, they can attend aural training classes, presentations and concerts in the castle ballroom and historical churches.
The course teachers are the most outstanding Polish pedagogues as well as guests from Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Israel, Italy, Russia, Sweden, Switzerland and the USA.
The founder of the course (in 1974) and its artistic and musical director was prof. Zenon Brzewski of the F. Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw. He was also Chairman of the Teachers' Section of the Polish Musicians' Association, Honorary President of Polish Section of ESTA (European String Teachers' Association) and a jury member of numerous international violin competitions.
Since 1993 the Artistic Director has been prof. Miroslaw Lawrynowicz, a pupil of prof. Zenon Brzewski.
