Ten years of the Internet in Poland: An anniversary concert

The symbolic starting day of the Internet in Poland was August 17, 1991 when the first e-mails were exchanged between the Warsaw University and the Copenhagen University. The launch of the Internet was a joint effort of Polish academic centres and NASK (Research and Academic Computer Network). To mark the tenth anniversary of the Internet, a symposium titled Information Revolution: Ten years of the Internet in Poland will be held on September 14, 2001. The Symposium will be organised jointly by NASK and the Warsaw University - Department of Physics, and the Interdisciplinary Centre of Computer and Mathematical Modelling.

The tenth anniversary of the Internet will also be marked by a special concert performed simultaneously by three choirs in Warsaw, Gdansk, and Cracow. The concert will be broadcast live on the World Wide Web. The Chopin Academy of Music is among the organisers of the concert. It is worth to note that the Chopin Academy successfully organised a similar concert in 1998, during the Warsaw Autumn Festival.

Performers:
AMFC Vocal Consort - Warsaw, conducted by Ryszard Zimak
Schola Cantorum Gedanensis - Gdansk, conducted by Jan Lukaszewski
Capella Cracoviensis - Cracow, conducted by Stanislaw Krawczynski.
Artistic director - Professor Ryszard Zimak

The main feature will be the world premiere of Ad Laudes composed by Professor Stanislaw Moryto to honour the tenth anniversary of the Internet. The composition will be performed by three choirs conducted by Professor Ryszard Zimak. Highlights of the concert will be shown on local TV.
